"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way -- in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only... Okay, that makes no sense what so ever," Anakin grumbled, slamming the book shut and slapping it on the table.
“Come on Anakin, can’t you even get past the first sentence?” Alaya giggled, placing her copy of the book gently on her lap.
Anakin glared at her. “Alaya, why must we do our book report on this book? Can’t we do something more fun? The teacher said we could pick anything we wanted!”
“This book is a classic!” Alaya replied. “Besides, who says it isn’t a fun book? You’ve only read the first sentence.”
“That sentence made no sense,” Anakin repeated, grabbing the book and opening it again. Pointing to the page, he added, “This is full of contradictions! And who uses words like epoch and superlative anyway?”
“It’s called being eloquent,” Alaya sighed, staring at Anakin’s frowning face. “Alright, what would you like to do our report on?
“The Podracing Chronicles of the Starkiller twins!” Anakin replied, throwing the book back on the table and racing over to the bookcase. Grabbing the mentioned book, he leaped over the back of the couch, landing beside Alaya. “This book makes sense, and uses understandable words, see?” Anakin opened the book and read the first sentence aloud. “The explosions threatened to overtake the Podracers, it’s fiery mass millimeters away from the hull.”
Alaya wrinkled her nose, “Podracing Chronicles?”
Anakin nodded vigorously, “Yeah, isn’t it great? It’s got all the action and adventure a person could want!” Seeing her unenthusiastic expression, he hastily added, “Plus it’s got a mystery and a side romance.”
Alaya glanced down at her book, softly rubbing her fingers over the cover. “I don’t know.”
“Please Alaya?” Anakin begged, his blue eyes pleading with her.
Alaya looked undecidedly at the two books. Coming to a decision, she slowly nodded. “Alright, we can do the report on your book.”
“Yes!” Anakin exclaimed, giving her a quick hug. “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!”
“You’re welcome,” Alaya choked out as Anakin gave her another squeeze.
“You won’t regret this!” Anakin grinned. |
